How do we see Mayan values exemplified in modern society?

How do we see Mayan values exemplified in modern society?
today there are many mayan values in the modern day society, i am going to focaus on two of them. They are Mayan math and mayan myths. both may seem verry diffrent from how we do things today, but that doesn't mean that they arn't incorperated in today's society.
Mayan math was based on a root 20 system, today we use a 10 base system. altho they used diffrent system the two were verry similar, they would get the same numbers and answers they were just diffrent ways of comming ti the answer.
Mayan myths arnt incorperated into taodays learning and society but if you look closly you can see how they are verry similar to may rekligions today. like the idea of heavan and hell in the christan society is verry simalar to thier idea of the after life.

Choose two of the Chinese Philosophies and make a comparison and/or judgment about their effectiveness in maintaining order.

Choose two of the Chinese Philosophies and make a comparison and/or judgment about their effectiveness in maintaining order.
I chose the Mohists and the Legalists, they are very different they had very different beliefs in the way that people acted and the structure of the laws. The Mohists believed people were bad and selfish but in order to be good the need to be educated in order to act the way that they feel is right, they also believed in love peace and no war, in this way they where very much like hippies. they belived that in order for there to be order every one should be smart, they however didn't feel a need for any music or art as they did not find this important to a peaceful environment. They also thought that all of china should become one country and have one ruler united by brotherly love. The Legalists where very much the opposite of these peaceful people.
the Legalists also believed that people were bad and selfish but in order to create peace you had to treat them as if they where bad and couldn't be good. †hey also believed that war was a symbol of power you could show how powerful a ruler was based on the wars that they won. they also believed people shouldn't question the law they should follow it blindly and the way they did this was to not educate the people. the Legalists where the opposite of the Mohists.

What is the most effective way for a ruler to maintain order?

What is the most effective way for a ruler to maintain order?
The most effective way for a ruler to maintain order is to be a fair and just ruler one that has a back bone and is able to establish what is best for his people not for them self's. To be fair and just a ruler needs to up hold his law he has to stick to one law there are no exceptions but at the same time a ruler needs to be understanding about what someone's situation in life is. A ruler must have back bone because if you always choose the easy way out your country can not flourish and become bigger. A ruler can't be selfish they must always put there country before them selfs.a ruler needs the right balance of every thing to be the best that they can, that is the most effective way to rule.

Diamond's Thesis
I agree with Diamond's thesis that The spread of agriculture and the start of civilizations where due to geographical and circumstantial luck. If the people in the fertile crescent had geographical luck because when they started agriculture they had the right weather, plants, and animals. But in New ginny where they also started farming they did not have the right animals or plants so they could not create the surplus that they need. So that not every one had to farm and people could become specialists. In the middle east they had all the right things so when they had a surplus in food they could create a much more advanced civilization. That is why i agree with diamond's thesis because geographical and circumstantial luck where what allowed civilizations to be created.

Do The Advantages Of Agriculture And Farming Outweigh The Disadvantages?
Even though there are many disadvantages of agriculture and farming, I think that the advantages of agriculture and farming outweigh the disadvantages because agriculture and farming allow you to stay in one settled location and a person always knows that they are going to get fed. moving around from place to place dose not seem like fun for one thing you cant have a lot of items but also it must be stress full to not know where you are going to rest your head at night. In general or at least I know that Im comforted by the thought that I know there will be food on my pleat when the next meal comes. that is a result of agriculture and farming if we where still hunter gatherers then there where some days when you didn't get a meal because you couldn't find food. Even though in my opinion the advantages of agriculture and farming outweigh the disadvantages there are still many Disadvantages. Some of the Disadvantages are that plants that are tended to by farmers do not have as many adaptans to the climate as plants found in the wild and if some virus spread to one plant all of the plants are in one area so they all would get infected.
